Overview

The Emma Eccles Jones College of Education and Human Services business services team is seeking a motivated and knowledgeable professional to join our dynamic team as a Business Manager Senior. This position plays a vital role in supporting the College’s innovation enterprise by providing financial support for smaller or newly emerging centers, as well as college-designated grants.

Responsibilities

CEHS Content Expert & Trainer:

  • Serves as the College’s subject matter expert in post-award research administration
  • Acts as the primary trainer/mentor of sponsored program skills and processes

Business Manager - Innovation Enterprise:

  • Provides financial management support to designated centers, including:
    • Center for the School of the Future
    • Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia Research Center
    • Sorenson Legacy Foundation Center for Clinical Excellence
    • Office of Research Services
  • Provides financial oversight and guidance to GEAR UP grant business services personnel

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive financial/business/management related responsibilities that demonstrate the aptitude to perform the essential functions of the position OR a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Management, or Finance/Business related area plus a minimum of 4 years of progressive financial/business/management related responsibilities that demonstrate the aptitude to perform the essential functions of the position.
  • Experience in providing financial support for externally funded awards.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Competent in the use of Microsoft Excel and Word including the ability in Excel to independently use formulas and pivot tables.
  • Experience in developing and presenting complex and financial information to both a financial and non-financial audience. Strong writing and editing skills. Able to develop materials with proper grammar and punctuation.
  • Experience with USU’s Banner Finance system.
  • Working knowledge of USU research policies and procedures.
  • Experience with USU’s Kuali system including proposal set up and reporting.
  • Experience with USU’s Argos system, Finance dashboards.
  • Experience in higher education, specifically within an academic unit.
  • Experience with grants requiring Institutional Review Board approvals.
  • Experience with grants with subcontracts or match requirements

  • Ability to use independent judgment and to manage and impart confidential information.
  • Ability to think analytically, quantitatively, creatively, and strategically.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally, both orally and in writing.  Strong active listening skills including the ability to work with a diverse group of faculty, administrators, and staff.
  • Ability to develop clear, accurate, and professional training materials and presentations.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of attention to detail when reviewing sponsored program documents. Ability to create and review complex budgets.
  • Knowledge of financial requirements of research contracts and grant proposals in a university environment.
  • Knowledge of all types of sponsored award mechanisms including grants, contracts, and subcontracts including match requirements.
  • Ability to interpret sponsor guidelines and regulations, including a detailed understanding of Uniform Guidance.
  • Ability to independently research issues and/or questions and concisely summarize findings.
