Overview

The USU Controller's Office seeks to hire an Accountant as part of the College Accounting team. The successful applicant will participate in and assist with all area’s college accounting and financial reporting functions.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with the preparation of notes to the financial statements
  • Maintains complex records and files
  • Compiles statistical, financial, accounting, and/or auditing reports and tables
  • Must become an expert in reading and analyzing contracts regarding leases and software
  • Maintains a complex database of all leases and software using third party system
  • Calculates required financial information for financial statements and notes in order to ensure compliance with GASB requirements
  • Prepares complex journal entries
  • Reconciles difficult accounts and reports, resolving discrepancies and problems
  • Interacts with colleges and departments
  • Reviews completed financial statements for accuracy
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum Qualification:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting plus two years of related experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two to Three years’ experience in higher education accounting and financial reporting
  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience with Banner Finance
  • Demonstrated experience and expertise in compiling financial statements
  • Experience reading and analyzing contracts and understanding related terms and conditions

  • Financial Statement preparation
  • Understand and apply GASB statements
  • Financial analysis
  • Contracts review and understanding
  • Communication with campus community
  • Learn and apply various accounting software applications
  • Maintain schedules and reports to ensure accuracy and timeliness

  • Reconciliations
  • Other assignments and duties as assigned
