Overview

The ABB Shop Hand has a number of important duties regarding customer service, organization, and maintenance. In addition to basic mechanic duties such as repairing bicycles and salvaging parts, the Shop Hand will help organize the space, perform maintenance and cleaning, and be in charge of repairing the kid’s bikes that ABB donates to the community. The Shop Hand should have a positive attitude, be friendly, and be motivated to be at Aggie Blue Bikes.

Responsibilities

Customer service:

  • Greet customers at the door
  • Collect customer A#s for our records
  • Make sure a mechanic is available to help them
  • Organize spaces as needed/requested

Clean bicycles using a pressure washer, rags, and cleaning tools:

  • Carefully clean customer bicycles, being sure not to damage any bearing systems or cause any problems with the water
  • Perform basic repairs on bicycles including quick checks, 2-week checkups, and general maintenance.
  • When needed, perform safety checks on ABB bicycles as well as customer bicycles
  • Teardown/ disassemble bicycles for donation, parts, blue bikes, etc
  • Perform repairs on kid’s bicycles that ABB will donate to the community, ensuring they are safe and functional

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Positive, friendly attitude.
  • Motivated to learn about all aspects of Aggie Blue Bikes from repairs to history and services.
  • Year-round availability (including summer months).
  • Careful attention to detail.
  • Quick learner

This position requires moderate physical activity. Employees must have sufficient strength to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position including moderate lifting (up to 50 pounds), walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, and squatting.  This position requires nearly continuous standing, repetitive hand motions, and reaching overhead.  Employees may be exposed to unusual elements including extreme temperatures, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
