Overview

Assist in, learn about, and/or perform general carpentry work in the maintenance, repair, and construction of Housing Facilities. Incumbents apply entry level (apprentice level) skills in conjunction with following instructions, technical knowledge and following established guidelines to accomplish assigned tasks. Incumbents work as part of a team, with direct supervision from a senior technician, to complete assigned projects.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in and/or repairs and maintains a myriad of structural parts, including floors, windows, ceilings, roofs, walls, partitions, stairways, etc.
  • Assists in and/or performs duties associated with a variety of new construction and remodeling, including insulation, cabinets, shelves, wood or metal frame walls, suspended ceilings, roofing, masonry, concrete work, etc.
  • Assists in and/or performs finish work, including trimming, fitting and installing windows and doors, paneling, attaching hinges and catches, laying laminate and ceramic tile counters, etc.
  • Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
  • Promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  • Cleans equipment, shop area, and work site.
  • Completes trainings, as warranted, to stay current with trade.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 2 Years previous work experience required
  • High School level of education or equivalent

The position requires considerable physical activity. Employees must have sufficient strength to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position including heavy lifting (50 pounds) and/or pushing and pulling of heavy objects. Employees must be prepared to assume uncomfortable positions such as crawling, kneeling, and squatting. Additionally, the work environment can include confined or narrow spaces. Employees must adhere to safety precautions and may be required to use protective equipment.
