Overview

Assistant Professor and Extension Specialist in Applied Economics. This is a twelve-month tenure-track position with a 50:45:5 division of effort between extension, teaching, and service, starting August 1, 2025. The extension role carries with it an expectation of applied research.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will develop an applied research and extension program that engages stakeholders and provides practical, data-driven solutions to critical issues facing Utah and the surrounding region. Preferred areas of focus include livestock production, agricultural production, and farm/ranch management. Additional priority areas include water management and policy, public land use, commodity marketing, and applied econometrics. The candidate is also expected to actively seek external funding to support these research and extension initiatives. This individual’s teaching efforts will be in support of the newly developed Ranch Management Economics degree program, as well as Agribusiness and other degree programs offered by the Department of Applied Economics.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. in economics or agricultural economics or closely related field must be completed before beginning employment. Excellent communication and quantitative skills are required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience with or success in extension programming, grant writing, teaching, and academic publishing is preferred.
