Overview

Utah State University’s Statewide Campuses – Eastern Campus Operations is seeking qualified applicants for one full-time position, which will be filled as either a Plumber SR or an Electrical Technician SR, depending on the selected candidate’s qualifications and experience. The Plumber Senior or Electrical Technician Senior will report to the Facilities Director. This classification trains, guides, and may supervise less senior technicians.

  • Plumber Senior: The incumbent will perform a variety of skilled plumbing tasks, including the installation, maintenance, repair, and remodeling of university plumbing systems. This role requires the ability to work independently and as part of a team to complete projects efficiently and safely.

  • Electrical Technician Senior: The incumbent will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems of various voltages across campus buildings and properties. Candidates should possess a strong knowledge of electrical codes and best practices.

Responsibilities

Plumber Senior Typical Functions:

  • Troubleshoots and repairs utility distribution systems, including heat exchangers, valves, backflows, and waste systems.
  • Maintains, repairs, and installs plumbing related equipment throughout campus to meet code.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on plumbing systems as outlined.
  • Responds to and repairs water leaks or plumbing/hydronic problems reported from campus buildings.
  • Ensures water quality to research labs by maintaining and repairing water softeners, distillers, reverse osmosis systems, and other water treatment equipment.
  • Maintains the domestic water supply system to plumbing code standards.
  • Maintains all medium and low-pressure steam lines and related equipment.
  • Monitors proper flow on all waste, drain, and vent lines, including separators and traps.
  • Responds to work orders on assigned campus buildings.
  • Promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

 

Electircal Technician Senior Typical Functions:

  • Installs electrical systems for remodeling and commercial projects.
  • Maintains electrical systems of various voltages.
  • Repairs and maintains campus lighting in buildings, walkways, parking lots, roadways, etc.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on all electrical systems and equipment.
  • Assists with high voltage installations, repairs, and maintenance.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs electrical controls.
  • Acts as a liaison between University and outside contractors for elevator maintenance.
  • Ensures that USU fire systems meet the code requirements of NFPA 72, the state of Utah, and local requirements as dictated by the AHJ.
  • Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
  • Promotes continuous improvements of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  • Adheres to safety precautions and uses protective equipment.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned

Qualifications

Miniumum Qualification:

  • Six years of directly related work experience in the plumbing or electrical trade or a Journeyman license in one of the trades is required.
