Overview

This is a position in collaboration with Mississippi State University and Sol Ross University. The objective of the position is to assist national Wildlife Extension professionals with interstate communications and collaborations as well as to create a portal for the national public to find a wildlife Extension professional in their state. The employee will be located in Starkvillw MS, and with work with collaborators in MSU to create ESRI story maps and outreach materials.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize Esri®’s ArcGIS StoryMaps to create a landing page for information related to the Wildlife Across America Extension specialist organization. Development of this web resource will involve the following responsibilities:
    • Develop a map of current Extension wildlife specialists across the continental US, featuring individual programs, contact information, and focus areas
    • Craft a narrative on what Extension is, how wildlife specialists operate, and what sorts of programs and initiatives currently are in place in order effectively relay information to stakeholders, private and federal partners, and other related audiences
    • Curate relevant audio-visual components in order to supplement the components of the program
  • Set up a communication platform for current Extension wildlife specialists to host discussion forums, quarterly calls, professional development trainings, and potentially serve as a clearinghouse or listing of current Extension Wildlife Specialists and Associates and their respective programs
  • Use communication platform to facilitate the creation of a formal Extension wildlife specialist onboarding and mentoring program led by late- and mid-career professionals.

Qualifications

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Self-motivated, fit well in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Typing and computer skills (word processing and spreadsheets).
  • Highly flexible, ability to adapt to a rapidly changing schedule.
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks and prioritize multiple demands.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge and skills in using Microsoft Office Suites especially Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge and skills in using Esri® products especially ArcGIS®, StoryMaps®, and knowledge and skills in document/project management/sharing platforms (e.g. Google Drive, Slack, etc.).
  • Ability to develop and maintain diverse and robust partnerships.
  • Ability to collect, process, and interpret research data, and ability to author or co-author publications.
  • Exhibit excellent oral and written communication skills.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree with major coursework in a curriculum appropriate field of assignment.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least 2 years of relevant experience with ESRI applications and products including Storymap® development.
  • At least 2 years of Extension, applied research, outreach, education, and project management experience.
