Overview

The College of Engineering at Utah State University seeks applicants for a full-time Associate Dean of Academic Programs.

 

The Associate Dean of Academic Programs is responsible for leading initiatives that support the creation, review, accreditation, continuous improvement, and support for undergraduate programs in the College of Engineering (COE) on the Logan campus and for statewide delivery. The role is responsible for supporting student achievement within the College of Engineering, from enrollment through graduation and beyond. This role ensures comprehensive student support by overseeing academic advising, first-year experience programs, professional development, and career readiness initiatives. Additionally, the role is responsible for partnerships across the university that define and foster learning, curricular development, and student success for programs in COE.


The Associate Dean plays a key role in fostering a positive learning environment, enhancing student engagement, and implementing strategies to improve retention and graduation rates. This position requires strong leadership, strategic planning, and collaboration with faculty, staff, and students to promote academic excellence.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate program evaluations and accreditation efforts, including compliance with ABET and other relevant accrediting bodies.
  • Support faculty in integrating emerging technologies and methodologies into engineering and technology curricula.
  • Develop and implement student success strategies to improve retention, graduation rates, and career placement.
  • Oversee academic advising services and provide resources to support students in their educational journey.
  • Strengthen first-year experience programs to facilitate a smooth transition to college life.
  • Enhance graduate success initiatives by ensuring students are well-prepared for career opportunities.
  • Provide professional development opportunities that equip students with essential academic and career skills.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the College of Engineering and university-wide student success initiatives.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to improve student engagement and learning outcomes.
  • Use data-driven approaches to monitor student progress and develop interventions for struggling students.
  • Establish partnerships with industry leaders, alumni, and other colleges within USU to expand student opportunities.
  • Improve student support services and advocate for policies that enhance the student experience.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A PhD in engineering or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated expertise appropriate for appointment at the Associate or Full Professor level.
  • Extensive experience in academic program assessment and accreditation, including familiarity with ABET or other accrediting bodies.
  • Proven ability to support and facilitate student mobility across multiple campuses, ensuring alignment of curriculum and seamless transitions for students in statewide programs.
  • Leadership experience in engineering and technology programs, including curriculum development, interdisciplinary collaboration, and program innovation.
  • Strong understanding of best practices in engineering education, student engagement strategies, and continuous improvement processes.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, administrators, and external partners to drive student success initiatives and promote equitable access to engineering education.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Positive experience in academic leadership with a proven record of success in student-focused initiatives.
  • Extensive experience in higher education with a strong commitment to student development.
  • A deep understanding of retention strategies and student engagement best practices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with faculty, staff, students, and external partners.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and implementing programs that enhance student achievement and career readiness.
