Overview

Utah State University Extension Youth Programs/Utah 4-H is seeking a dynamic, organized, and motivated individual to serve as the 4-H State Ambassador Advisor. This part-time position (approx. 20 hours per week) will oversee and coordinate all aspects of the Utah 4-H State Ambassador Program. The Advisor will be a member of the Leadership & Community Engagement working group. The State 4-H Ambassadors, under the direction of the advisor, serve as mentors/trainers for all statewide teen leadership groups.

 

This role includes flexible hours, with increased demands during events such as ambassador interviews and statewide programs. Some evenings and weekends are required. The position reports to the Director of Extension Youth Programs

 

This position is telework eligible within the state of Utah. 

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the annual 4-H State Ambassador selection process, including youth recruitment and interviews.
  • Lead orientation and training sessions for new ambassadors.
  • Provide year-round support, supervision, and mentorship to ambassadors during events, service projects, and program initiatives.
  • Design and implement leadership experiences and activities consistent with Utah 4-H program goals.
  • Organize and execute trainings, retreats, and ambassador events in collaboration with other project area leaders.
  • Represent Utah 4-H with elected officials, stakeholders, and donors as a visible youth leadership advocate.
  • Recruit, onboard, and support volunteer advisors for the ambassador program.
  • Manage program funds and oversee fundraising activities/donor relationships.
  • Support and advance the mission of the Utah 4-H Ambassador Program through outreach and innovation.
  • Participate as an active member of the USU Youth Programs Team, including meetings, working groups, and state-level events where possible.
  • Promote inclusivity and support civil rights compliance through outreach to diverse audiences.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, youth development, or a related field
  • 3-year prior involvement with 4-H Ambassador programs
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and virtual platforms (e.g., Zoom)
  • Experience leading youth-adult partnership programs and events
  • Reliable transportation and flexibility to travel, including occasional overnight stays


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience recruiting, supervising, and supporting volunteers
  • Prior involvement with 4-H State Ambassador programs
  • Master's degree in education, youth development, or a related field
  • Familiarity with the Land Grant University system


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Comfortable teaching and engaging with youth and adult audiences
  • Proficient in technology and digital tools for program delivery and promotion
  • Ability to develop and implement marketing and social media strategies
  • Positive interpersonal skills and professionalism when working with diverse populations
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends as required
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively
  • Willingness and ability to travel within Utah as needed

Advertised Salary

Employees work indoors and are protected from weather and/or contaminants, but not, necessarily, occasional temperature changes. This position requires moderate physical activity, including the handling of objects up to 25 pounds and/or standing or walking more than one hour per day. Must travel for event planned and trainings.
