Join the Merrill-Cazier Library’s Access Services team in connecting with students, faculty, staff, and all library visitors to make the library USU's nexus for curiosity, collaboration, and community!


The Merrill-Cazier Library is seeking a Library Technician to serve as Night Manager. The position is the primary staff person during evening and weekend hours and is responsible for the overall functioning of the library during that time. As a part of Access Services, this position supports the library’s mission of supporting all people in discovering, creating, and sharing knowledge and diverse perspectives.


Reporting to the Head of Access Services, this is a full-time benefited staff position at the Library Technician level. The salary is a minimum of $40,000. Hours vary with the needs of the unit, but are typically Sunday 12:00pm – 9:00pm, and Monday through Thursday 3:00pm – 12:00am.

Responsibilities

  • Manages the main library service desk and building operations during evening and weekend hours, including oversight of closing procedures.
  • Provides on-site support for student employees during evening and weekend shifts.
  • Oversees several circulation services, including management of the library circulation email account, troubleshooting the Automated Retrieval System (ARS), and coordinating the processing of missing items and book mending.
  • Collaborates with the Collections Strategies Section to obtain replacement pricing and coordinate patron billing for lost materials.
  • Maintains and updates technology available for student checkout, providing basic troubleshooting as needed.
  • Communicates with library staff to ensure evening and night personnel are informed about ongoing projects and service updates.
  • Serves on the Building Management Team and participates in library-wide committees and initiatives as needed.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualification:

  • Two years of experience in a library; or Associate degree

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience working in a public service setting.
  • Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and alone with little or no immediate supervision.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with library employees and USU students, faculty, and staff, as well as community patrons.
  • Ability to work with computer software applications, such as Word, Excel, and other applications.
