Overview

Exciting career opportunity for a knowledgeable, licensed professional to join the USU Eastern Cosmetology Program as a full-time, benefited faculty instructor. The successful candidate will play an essential role in educating and mentoring students and will work closely with fellow faculty and staff as part of a dynamic instructional team. With a primary role assignment of 95% teaching and 5% service.


Applicants must be able to positively impact students through teaching, supervision, and mentorship in both classroom and salon settings. Candidates must possess basic computer skills and be comfortable using digital tools such as email, digital course materials, Learning Management Software (LMS), and search engines.

 

The Cosmetology program is hiring for a full-time instructor role in Cosmetology/Barbering and Nail Technology.  Primary duties being Instructing in the topics of Hair cutting and styling. In addition this position will also support in help teach in all aspects of Cosmetology. This position will be physically located at the USU Eastern Campus in Price.

Responsibilities

  • Provide accurate and relevant instruction to students in both theory and lab settings, aligning with current curriculum and industry standards
  • Promote and uphold all USUE policies and procedures
  • Promote and uphold all of USUE’s Cosmetology departmental policies and procedures.
  • Create and implement semester lesson plans and assignments according to the assigned course curriculum
  • Teach, monitor, mentor, and assess students to support progress toward academic and state licensure goals
  • Participate in ongoing professional development, including University-provided training, continuing education, and industry seminars
  • Support students in making informed decisions about their academic and career paths
  • Guide students in setting realistic goals and understanding the long-term benefits of higher education
  • Foster a positive, inclusive learning environment and promote student engagement
  • Assist students with all aspects of client work, both in theory and hands-on salon experience
  • Maintain accurate documentation, including grading, attendance, and student progress records
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current Utah Cosmetology/Barbering Instructor License and/or Utah Nail Technician License
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of salon industry experience
  • At least 3 years of teaching experience in Theory, Lab, or Salon instruction
  • Demonstrate excellence in interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to inspire and support students individually and in groups
  • Strong professional judgment in dynamic, fast-paced environments
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, including public speaking skills
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing demands and priorities while maintaining collaboration
  • Commitment to staying current on program policies, curriculum, and industry standards
  • Ability to relate to and support students from diverse backgrounds
  • Competence in developing and delivering effective educational content
  • Proficiency with digital tools and educational technologies
