Overview

The Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling Service in the Sorenson Center for Clinical Excellence (SCCE) is seeking a Mental Health Clinician who will provide individual and group mental health counseling services for persons with Chronic Illness, Disability, Developmental Disability, and Psychiatric Disability.  Providers in the Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling service line assist persons with physical, mental, developmental, cognitive, and emotional disabilities to achieve their personal, career, and independent living goals in the most integrated setting possible through the application of the counseling process.

 

Located on the main campus in Logan, Utah, this is a 1.0 FTE, 12-month fiscal year position.  This position is not eligible for remote work.  This position is contingent on funding and a successful background check.  The anticipated start date for this position is October 13, 2025.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and group mental health counseling services for persons experiencing psychological distress. Maintain confidential records related to client treatment through the utilization of an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
  • Help and support clients as they navigate stressors. Develop relationships with clients that encourage clients to express their feelings and to discuss what is happening in their lives and helps them develop insight into themselves and their relationships.
  • Collects information about clients through interviews, observations, and tests. Prepares and maintains treatment plans.
  • Evaluates clients’ physical or mental condition based on review of client information. Develops and implements treatment plans based on clinical experience and knowledge. Acts as a client advocate to coordinate required services or to resolve emergency problems in crisis situations, such as suicidal ideation or self-harm.
  • Maintain a 60/40 billable hour split; meaning, prospective hires will be expected to devote 60% of their time to billable hours (e.g. client contact) and 40% to office hours and care coordination. In a standard 40 hour work week, this would mean 24 client sessions per week, and 16 hours of office time and care coordination.
    • The Clinician will be responsible for tracking their hours, managing their clinical schedule, and ensuring they are meeting the hours requirements for the position
    • The Clinician is responsible for maintaining a caseload and schedule that ensures fulfillment of job requirements

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • The position will be hired as either a Clinician I or Clinician II based on the following qualifications:
    • For hire as a Clinician I:  A master’s degree in a mental health field that prepares graduates for licensure (e.g., social work, mental health counseling, marriage and family therapy), a provisional mental health license in Utah (e.g., CSW, ACMHC, AMFT), and eligible for independent licensure in Utah as a mental health provider within 2 years of hire date.  If hired as a Clinician I, the individual must have secured a license for independent practice within 2 years of hire. (If hired at the Clinician I level, supervision will be provided by SCCE clinicians.)
    • For hire as a Clinician II:  A master’s degree in a mental health field that prepares graduates for licensure (e.g., social work, mental health counseling, marriage and family therapy) and current Utah licensure (or ability to secure licensure by hire date) that allows independent practice (e.g., LCSW, CMHC, LMFT)
  • Effective oral, written, and interpersonal skills and the ability to work well in a diverse and inclusive team setting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior work as a mental health clinician
  • Experience working with individuals with chronic illness and disability.
  • Experience with telehealth

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Specific knowledge, skills, and abilities in providing clinical mental health counseling services for persons with Chronic Illness, Disability, and Developmental Disabilities.\
  • Knowledge of mental health diagnosis, case conceptualization, and treatment planning for psychiatric disabilities.
  • Knowledge, skills, and abilities in developing and prioritizing a therapeutic relationship with clients.
  • Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; psychological research methods; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders.
  • Knowledge and awareness of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders 5th Edition (DSM 5).
  • Knowledge of group behavior and dynamics, societal trends and influences, human migrations, ethnicity, and cultures and their history and origins.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services.
