Overview

Utah State University (USU) in beautiful Logan, UT is looking to hire an Academic Belonging Program Coordinator (Program Coordinator II) for the Office of Academic Belonging & Learning Excellence.

 

The Academic Belonging Program Coordinator reports to the Assistant Director for Academic Belonging. In this position, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Lead and innovate programming that supports academic belonging for all undergraduate students throughout the USU system.
  • Collaborate and represent the unit on various committees focused on academic belonging and student success.
  • Make an impact in the lives of first-generation college students.
  • Full-time, non-exempt with negotiable remote schedule

Responsibilities

Academic Belonging Programming and Development (75%):

  • Hire, train, and supervise student staff, including student leaders and peer educators.
  • Utilize data to track persistence and completion progress of students served. Utilize data to inform management and further development of programming.
  • Market and recruit students to participate in learning communities such as transfer students and life- span learners.
  • Coordination of academic belonging activities and events as assigned.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders throughout the USU system to support all students to connect with learning communities and increase academic belonging.
  • Represent academic belonging on appointed campus committees and working groups, including those with a focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Possible programs include learning communities such as:
    • Aggie First Scholars
    • Supplemental Instruction
    • AggieUp: First-generation student concurrent education program
    • New programming to support transfer students, live-at-home Aggies, lifespan learners, etc.

Student Support Services (TRIO) Success Coaching (15%):

  • Provide assistance as requested by the TRIO Project Director which may include:
    • Support SSS/TRIO participants who plan on future graduate/professional school through mentoring and monthly activities and workshops that assist project participants to apply to, and obtain financial aid for, graduate school.
    • Attend weekly TRIO staff meetings.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree plus two years of applicable experience; OR a master's degree; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in student support and/or success programming within a higher education setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge regarding Utah State University services, academic policies, procedures, and resources.
  • Trained in data analytics utilizing Banner, ARGOS, CIVITAS, and Tableau (or comparable systems).
  • Experience leading or supervising a First-generation college student program.
  • Participation as an instructor, mentor, and/or trainer within higher education.
  • Experience with fundraising and grant-writing in support of student programming.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Displayed communication skills including the ability to effectively convey information verbally and in writing.
  • Exhibited attention to detail in planning and executing student events and programming.
  • Proven computer literacy and proficiency with Microsoft Office suite programs, and a willingness and ability to learn additional computer software programs.
  • Demonstrated innovation and adaptation of strategies to improve programming outcomes.
  • Committed to providing an equitable and accessible standard of care for all USU students.
