Overview

USU Online Success Coaches (Student Success Advisor) counsel and encourage students to reach academic and career goals and connect students with resources for learning strategy and support and life skills programming. Incumbents work collaboratively with Academic Advisors from the respective academic departments to support students resulting in student retention and success. Online Success Coaches provide an important connection for online students from admission to graduation to help them feel connected to the institution and gain the benefits provided therein. These activities may include regular outreach, interacting via the student portal, sending email and text messaging, and coordinating with enrollment specialists. Success Coaches will also participate in student retention efforts such as Early Alert and contacting AWOL students.  There are currently two opportunities for USU Online Success Coaches as the Division is growing.  

 

This position is telework eligible within the state of Utah. 

Responsibilities

  1. Support the onboarding of new online students to USU Online by helping them feel confident and comfortable in the virtual learning environment. This includes providing general orientation and conducting individual assessments to identify and improve study strategies, time management, and organizational skills, ensuring students are well-prepared for academic success. [30%]
  2. Providing consistent outreach to students to foster a sense of connection and belonging within the university community. It includes assisting students in navigating university policies and procedures, as well as supporting them in overcoming challenges to academic progress. Monitor and engage in student portal bulletins and posts. [25%]
  3. Provides student support services in person, by phone, email, virtual events, online workshops, etc. Provide appropriate referrals to university and community resources. [25%]
  4. Monitor and document student progress from application to graduation and provide support and guidance. [20%]
  5. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Clear written and spoken communication skills
  • Customer service skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with post-secondary students
  • Online student services experience
  • Experience with post-traditional students, e.g. adult learners, students returning from a long absence, students returning from academic discipline
  • Tutoring or learning coach experience
  • Communications experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Effective public speaking skills including ability to communicate with individuals as well as groups.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple demands and changing needs.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Ability to work with students in 1:1 or group advising settings.
  • Ability to learn and stay current of complex program requirements, policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work with diverse student backgrounds.
  • Ability to develop and/or deliver programs.
  • Knowledge of and proficiency in a variety of current and emerging technology platforms.
