Position Summary:
The ServiceNow Junior Developer (Entry-Level) position is a member of the Process Design & Development team and works alongside experienced developers, analysts, and stakeholders to design, build, test, document, and support ServiceNow - Service Catalog items, applications, and workflows used across USU’s ServiceNow platform.


This is an entry-level role designed for candidates who have foundational programming skills and want to build a career on the ServiceNow platform. The Junior Developer will learn ServiceNow development best practices, follow system and university standards, and contribute to implementation and support efforts with coaching and oversight.


A successful candidate will learn and be able to develop basic catalog items and workflows on the ServiceNow within 2-3 months. With additional learning, a junior developer should be able to expand their skillset and tackle more complex workflows and applications within 9-12 months moving from a junior developer to a full developer.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design, development, and configuration of ServiceNow catalog items and applications including:
    • Participating in requirements gathering and clarification
    • Contributing to solution design and development tasks
    • Testing and validation
    • Documentation and knowledge transfer
    • Implementation planning and deployment activities (with guidance)
  • Translate business and functional requirements into technical tasks and configuration/development work items.
  • Build and maintain platform components such as forms, lists, UI policies, business rules, client scripts, flows/workflows, notifications, reports, and dashboards (as appropriate to the role).
  • Develop and execute test cases for functional and regression testing; document results and troubleshoot defects.
  • Support integrations and data activities (as needed), such as imports/exports and basic REST/API usage, under direction of senior staff.
  • Recommend improvements to usability, performance, and maintainability of ServiceNow solutions.
  • Collaborate with team members and customers to ensure solutions meet the intended outcomes and follow platform standards.
  • Provide tier-two support to end users and Service Desk personnel, escalating issues when necessary.
  • Communicate status and progress on assigned tasks; follow project schedules and team processes.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Programmer/Analyst I: Bachelor’s degree in MIS, Computer Science, or related field OR Associate degree/certification in a related area plus two years of related experience OR Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience demonstrating technical aptitude
  • Programmer/Analyst II: Bachelor’s degree in MIS, Computer Science, or related field plus two years of related experience OR Associate degree/certification in a related area plus four years of related experience OR Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience demonstrating technical aptitude

Preferred Qualifications

  • Exposure to ServiceNow (coursework, personal projects, internships, certifications, or familiarity with the platform)
  • Familiarity with web technologies such as HTML/CSS, Bootstrap, or modern UI concepts
  • Basic understanding of integration concepts (REST, web services, APIs)
  • Experience with troubleshooting, customer support, or IT service processes (help desk, ITIL concepts)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Foundational experience with JavaScript (coursework, projects, internships, or job experience)
  • Ability to learn new tools and technologies quickly and apply feedback
  • Strong interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills; ability to work with varied audiences
  • Ability to work collaboratively on a development team and independently on assigned projects

This role provides structured growth opportunities, mentoring, and hands-on experience building solutions on the ServiceNow platform. Candidates should be comfortable learning in a fast-paced environment and committed to developing within a standard framework and supportable solutions.
