Overview

Utah State University’s Aviation Technology is seeking candidates for two positions (95% Teaching 5% Service roles) that focus primarily upon teaching multidisciplinary aviation courses for Aviation Technology degrees. The department provides educational opportunities for students from technical credential certificates, Associate of Applied Sciences, Bachelor of Science, and Master of Aviation Science degrees; and courses use different delivery modalities. The teaching role requires an individual who provides excellent instruction of aviation classes, with possible applications within Aviation Maintenance, Aviation Management, Professional Pilot (fixed and rotary wing), and Unmanned Aircraft Systems programs.

 

Candidates must demonstrate effective instructional design, online learning management system knowledge, and course development. Course responsibilities could also include graduate-level responsibilities. This is a 9-month, academic-year, non-tenure track, benefited position beginning on 1 August 2026. The successful candidate must demonstrate the capacity to provide college-level aviation teaching excellence; the ability to work harmoniously with colleagues within and across departments; and contribute to program development, assessment, and growth in the department.


Review of applicants will begin 1 February 2026, and will continue until the positions are filled. We are seeking experienced individuals who will provide instruction in an environment that embraces learning, positive spirit, high-performance, integrity, and diversity.

Responsibilities

Utah State University is seeking a faculty member who has experience in the aviation industry or collegiate teaching environment. Primary course subject responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: Avionics/Electronics, Aerodynamics, Structural Systems, Powerplant, and Aviation Safety, and other non-flight operations aviation courses.  A full-time teaching load for this position is 4-5 courses per semester, with typical load of ~24-27 credit hours per academic year.

 

This is a full-time teaching appointment with 95% teaching and 5% service role assignments, and may include the following:

  • Teach approximately 12-15 credit hours of undergraduate and/or graduate courses per semester in Aviation Technology
  • Service to include committee work in support of departmental, college, university, and professional society activities.
  • Assist with departmental student recruitment activities, career student advising and student club activities.
  • Maintain and enhance laboratory teaching environment including design and fabrication of innovative teaching materials.
  • Assist in student recruitment and retention, alumni and industry relations, program marketing/public relations, and other program needs.
  • Professional development, including conferences, online interactions and contributing to the aviation and collegiate education communities.

Course responsibilities could include selected courses/sections (in addition to course(s) within the candidate’s specific aviation content area) from the following:

  • The Aviation Profession; Flight Principles; Aerodynamics for Aviators; Aviation Weather; History of Aviation; Aircraft Systems for Pilots; Technical Communication; Aviation Law; FAA Regulations, Records and Certification; Composite Manufacturing Processes and Repair; Aviation Management; Human Factors in Aviation Safety; Crew Resource Management; Reading and Applying Research

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in aviation or a related field,
  • Three years of related aviation industry experience.
  • Excellent oral and written commination skills
  • Excellent computer and technology skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Online course instruction experience
  • Collegiate teaching experience and knowledge of curriculum subjects
  • Instructional design and curriculum development for collegiate courses
  • FAA certification (i.e. Airframe and Powerplants, Commercial Pilot, Professional Air Traffic Controller, Remote Pilot)
  • Experience with radio-controlled/model aviation, especially with integration and flight of UAS autopilot systems
  • Record of professional development in aviation, including publications, presentations, certifications
