Overview

USU Extension in Wasatch County is seeking a creative and positive person to work as a staff assistant. Hours will be 8am to 5pm Monday-Friday at the USU Extension Office in Wasatch County, UT. This is a full-time benefited position. Applicants should be able to work well independently and in a team.

Responsibilities

  • Assume standard office duties, including word processing, copying, faxing, scanning, editing, mailing, phone reception, email, taking meeting minutes, and spreadsheets.
  • Assist USU Extension employees in the organization of programs.
  • Develop materials to promote supported community out-reach programming including assisting faculty in the development of PowerPoint presentations and other educational materials, mailing, flyers, brochures, banners, and postcards.
  • Keeping website up-to-date and accurate and advertising classes and programs.
  • Work cooperatively with USU Extension faculty and staff on a variety of programming needs, including cooking, textiles, food preservation, horticulture, livestock, and 4-H programs.
  • Assist in filming Zoom and Facebook Live classes.
  • Applicant must be willing to work both independently and in a team. Creative ideas are encouraged to continuously improve programming.
  • Assist with reports and paperwork related to programming by maintaining and organizing budgets, travel paperwork, timecards, purchasing and other required reporting and program evaluations.
  • Handle communication with participants of programming through mail, flyers, advertisements, letter, email, phone calls, social media and website.
  • Maintain class registrations through phone, website and Eventbrite; create, organize and maintain class rosters.
  • Assist county director and faculty as needed.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two years of experience in an office setting or an associate degree/vocational training is required.
  • Some flexibility in work schedule required for occasional evening and Saturday programs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 4 years of work experience as an administrative assistant, higher education or equivalent.
  • Experience using Adobe InDesign and Canva.
  • Background in family and consumer sciences or related field.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Self-motivated and able to accomplish a variety of tasks without direct supervision and able to adhere to deadlines.
  • Demonstrate professional work manner and ethic.
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills, ability to pay attention to detail, and ability to follow specific instructions and procedures.
  • Excellent computer skills and proficient knowledge of a variety of Microsoft programs such as word, excel, and other basic computer operations.
  • Must display exceptional human relation skills and be able to pleasantly interact with a variety of individuals.
  • Must be able to work effectively with supervisors, clientele, co-worker, volunteers and professionals.
  • Skills in using social media, including, but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest.

  • Skilled in the operation of basic office equipment.

  • Motivated individual with a creative thought process.
  • Strong attention to detail and good eye for aesthetic work.
  • Strong editing skills.
  • Excellent budget tracking skills.
  • Knowledge of cooperative extension services.
  • Sense of humor and ability to keep things in perspective.
