Overview

The Web Manager (Webmaster II) provides strategic leadership and hands-on management of the web presence for USU Online and the broader division, including units supporting digital accessibility services, educational technology, and academic media. This position is responsible for ensuring that division websites are best-in-class, user-centered, accessible, accurate, secure, and aligned with institutional brand, marketing, and communication goals.

 

Reporting to the Director of Marketing and Communications, the Web Manager collaborates closely with internal stakeholders, content owners, designers, developers, accessibility specialists, and university partners to support recruitment, retention, service delivery, and engagement through effective web strategy and governance. This position will be at the Logan campus. This position is eligible for hybrid work within the state of Utah.

Responsibilities

Website Management and Optimization (60%)

  • Oversee day-to-day management of divisional websites, including structure, navigation, content quality, and functionality.
  • Ensure websites are optimized for usability, search engine performance (SEO), AI-search engine performance, accessibility, and mobile responsiveness.
  • Monitor web analytics and performance metrics; provide regular reports and recommendations to improve user experience and outcomes.
  • Partner with marketing and enrollment teams to optimize web journeys that support inquiry, application, and service conversion goals.
  • Establish and enforce content lifecycle standards, including regular audits, review cycles, and accountability for content owners.

Web Strategy and Governance (15%)

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive web strategy that supports USU Online and divisional priorities, including marketing, communication, and service delivery goals.
  • Own and maintain a divisional web roadmap, prioritizing initiatives based on institutional goals, user needs, capacity, and impact.
  • Establish and maintain web governance standards, policies, workflows, and documentation to ensure consistency, quality, and sustainability across all divisional websites.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the division and central university web, marketing, IT, and accessibility teams.

Content Leadership and Collaboration (10%)

  • Work with subject matter experts across educational technology, academic media, and related units to plan, create, edit, and publish web content.
  • Ensure content is accurate, up to date, audience-focused, and aligned with USU brand, tone, and messaging standards.
  • Provide editorial oversight and content strategy guidance to distributed content contributors.
  • Technology and Platform Management
  • Manage content management systems (CMS) and related web tools used by the division.
  • Collaborate with developers, designers, and vendors as needed to support site enhancements, integrations, and new initiatives.
  • Stay informed about emerging web technologies, higher education trends, and best practices in digital communication.

Leadership and Project Management (10%)

  • Lead and prioritize multiple web projects simultaneously, balancing strategic initiatives with ongoing maintenance needs.
  • Coordinate timelines, resources, and deliverables for web-related projects across the division.
  • Provide mentorship or supervision to student employees, interns, or staff contributors, as applicable.

Digital Accessibility (5%)

  • Partner with digital accessibility services to ensure divisional web content complies with applicable accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG) and institutional policies.
  • Promote accessible content practices through guidance, training, and review processes for content contributors.
  • Coordinate remediation efforts and continuous improvement related to web accessibility.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Four years of experience in a related field or an equivalent combination of education plus experience is required
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex websites or web ecosystems, preferably in higher education or a large organization.
  • Experience with content management systems and web analytics tools.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in higher education, online education, or academic support services.
  • Experience collaborating with accessibility, educational technology, or academic media teams.
  • Supervisory or team leadership experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of web accessibility principles and standards.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and project management skills.
  • Familiarity with digital marketing, SEO, and user experience (UX) best practices.
  • Knowledge of institutional branding and governance in a university environment.

This position works indoors and is protected from weather and/or contaminants, but not, necessarily, occasional temperature changes. This position will be frequently required to sit, stand, walk, and occasionally asked to bend, stoop, use hands and fingers, and reach with hands.

 

This position works collaboratively across USU Online and the broader division, engaging with faculty, staff, administrators, and university partners. The Web Manager plays a key role in connecting marketing and communications goals with technical, accessibility, and academic support services.
