The Department of Biological Engineering at Utah State University seeks applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the assistant professor level. The specific areas of preference are synthetic biology and synthetic biomanufacturing for engineering microorganisms including genome editing, gene circuit design, synthetic promoter development, as examples, to make bioproducts. Candidates must have an earned PhD in Biological Engineering or a related engineering discipline. The ideal candidate must demonstrate the potential for, or a strong record of, externally funded research, publications, teaching competency, and professional leadership. Candidates are expected to build a rigorous program of funded innovative research with potential for collaborations in a small but growing department as well as across the college and university. Candidates are also expected to be an excellent teacher at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. USU Eastern Upward Bound is a federally funded grant program designed to encourage post-secondary preparation of high school students who are from low-income families and are first-generation college bound students. We serve 60 high school students from Grand, Emery and Carbon counties. During a six-week summer program, up to 30 Upward Bound students experience intensive academic, cultural and social expansion while living in the residence halls at USU Eastern.   The residential team leader will help supervise 4-6 high school students throughout the week and overnight in the residence halls. They will act as mentors and supervisors to the participants of the Upward Bound Summer Program. The summer program will begin approximately June 2 - July 14. Team Leaders will be asked to come for two days of some training before the start of the program – dates to be determined once all parties are hired.   The successful candidate will also have the opportunity and responsibility to accompany the Upward Bound students on various adventures, and will be required to attend our end of the year trip. This year we will be going to Southern California. All expenses for these trips are included in your compensation (in addition to your base pay) and will not cost you anything. All food and housing is also included for the duration of the six-week summer program.   We are seeking 2 male team leaders. Job offer contingent upon successfully passed background check.

This new program will offer academic, field, and industry-based experiences that bring together advanced manufacturing, design, engineering principles, quality and reliability, business, and many other concepts important to companies in the manufacturing industry. The proposed Engineering Technology program will have both an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree and a Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) degree that prepare students for various positions on engineering teams in companies that manufacture and design commercial and consumer products. It is anticipated that the individual selected for this advising position will start in March of 2024.  This is a full-time, exempt staff position located on the USU Brigham City campus. This position’s primary role assignment will be advising undergraduate students in the engineering technology AAS and BAS degree programs. It is expected that advising will occur in-person and via distance technologies. The College of Science, in collaboration with the Office of Research (OR), seeks applications for a Proposal Development Specialist I or II to join our experienced and engaging proposal development team to help faculty generate competitive grant proposals and secure funding for cutting-edge research. The USU College of Science includes the academic departments of Biology, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Computer Science, Geosciences, Physics, along with Mathematics and Statistics. The Proposal Development Specialist will coordinate and support faculty grant-writing efforts, including multidisciplinary and collaborative proposals, to a wide range of external funding entities (federal, public and private) as well as internal funding sources. This is an on-campus position, or hybrid, or potentially fully remote (if located in Utah). The Proposal Development Specialist position will be challenging and requires a high-energy, self-starter with excellent technical writing and oral communication skills. Faculty in the College of Science have varying degrees of familiarity with the proposal development process. Consequently, the successful applicant must also be able to provide training and mentoring on proposal writing and development, particularly for new faculty.
