Utah Conservation Corps (UCC) operates three field seasons over the course of the year. Service performed by Utah Conservation Corps crews address program goals related to conservation of public lands and member development. The Field Coordinator position is dedicated to development of the UCC Climate Corps and Youth Conservation Corps through formal training and project work throughout the field season.   During Utah Conservation Corps spring season, the Field Coordinator will have the opportunity to work closely with field staff assisting with crews while becoming familiar with project and crew logistics and communications, reporting and other aspects of running successful crews. During this time the Field Coordinator will also work on tasks directly associated with the Climate and Youth Corps. This includes but is not limited to, partner reach out, project logistics, assisting with recruitment and creating of a Youth Corps training.   The Climate Corps Crew's field season will begin in June and run through November. The spring field season will be based in UCC's Cedar office, with the possibility of visiting other field offices. Summer and Fall field seasons will operate from the Logan office. The primary focus of Climate Corps crews will be on fire fuels reduction projects, concentrating on chainsaw work and other mitigation methods.   The Youth Conservation Corps will consist of a crew of up to 5-members with an adult crew leader. This Summer only crew will be based out of Vernal and operating from the Uintah Basin USU campus. Projects will address a diversity of conservation efforts on Utah public lands. Crew project work may include habitat restoration, re-vegetation, fence building, trail construction & maintenance, invasive plant removal, habitat surveying, and more.   The UCC Field Coordinator is responsible for providing direct leadership and support to these UCC field crews and working as part of the UCC field staff team to provide seasonal trainings and logistical coordination. The Field Coordinator is an integral member of UCC field operations, ensuring that UCC crews are adequately trained and prepared to perform high quality conservation service in a positive, safe, and productive environment.   The Field Coordinator is expected to provide leadership in support of UCC's overarching and crew-specific programmatic goals. Support of field crews and operations may include but will not be limited to: working with crews at their project sites, being in the field for multiple days in a row, assisting in training crew leaders and members, performing project site visits, managing logistics, maintaining tools and equipment, working in the field office, oversight of data collection, reporting and completing final project write-ups. The Field Coordinator will also assist with crew member recruitment efforts.   This position involves frequent travel, camping, irregular hours, and a varying weekly schedule. The Field Coordinator must have strong leadership and communication skills, flexibility, capacity for self-direction, a passion for conservation work, and a desire to provide mentorship to emerging conservation leaders. The Field Coordinator works under the supervision of the UCC inter-office Program Coordinator.

The appointment is 70% research, 25% teaching, and 5% service.   We seek a colleague who will lead a research program using current technology in plant genetics and breeding towards dwarf bunt resistance and other biotic and abiotic stress resistances related to climate resilience, who will develop genetically improved lines of wheat and barley adapted to dryland and irrigated small grain-growing regions of Utah and surrounding states including Idaho and other Pacific Northwest states. The successful candidate is expected to develop an extramurally funded, nationally recognized research program in plant breeding and genetics and contribute to teaching in PSC with an undergraduate class in plant breeding and an additional undergraduate or graduate class in their area of expertise. We serve 60 high school students from Grand, Emery and Carbon counties. During a six-week summer program, up to 30 Upward Bound students experience intensive academic, cultural and social expansion while living in the residence halls at USU Eastern.   The residential team leader will help supervise 4-6 high school students throughout the week and overnight in the residence halls. They will act as mentors and supervisors to the participants of the Upward Bound Summer Program. The summer program will begin approximately June 2 - July 14. Team Leaders will be asked to come for two days of some training before the start of the program – dates to be determined once all parties are hired.   The successful candidate will also have the opportunity and responsibility to accompany the Upward Bound students on various adventures, and will be required to attend our end of the year trip. This year we will be going to Southern California. All expenses for these trips are included in your compensation (in addition to your base pay) and will not cost you anything.
