The Department of Physics of Utah State University invites applications for a two-year postdoctoral research position in theoretical high energy and gravitational physics, broadly understood. Areas of particular interest include, but are not limited to, string theory, quantum field theory and black hole physics. The position will start in September 1, 2022.   Candidates should be in possession of a PhD in Theoretical Physics or related disciplines. They should be highly motivated individuals with strong research credentials and a proven track record of previous contributions to the field. They should possess strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to work in a research team environment. Previous experience in analytic computation software is desirable. Teaching opportunities at the upper undergraduate or graduate levels may be available.   Members of the theoretical high energy physics/gravity physics group at Utah State University include Maria J. Rodriguez, Charles Torre, Oscar Varela and James Wheeler. The group maintains close links with the Department of Mathematics.   Review of applications will begin on December 1, 2021. The College of Engineering and the Department of Engineering Education at Utah State University seeks applicants for a full-time academic-year, (9-month) Professional Practice Assistant Professor (non-tenure track) working under the direction of the EED Department Head and the College of Engineering Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. The successful candidate will be primarily responsible to lead the effort to build and implement the proposed new Engineering Math Center through a team effort within the college to increase retention. As a part of this effort, the candidate is expected to develop tutoring services, mentoring efforts, and other services to help address concerns and difficulties of engineering undergraduate students attending math courses. Active participation in improving retention of engineering students, including serving on the retention committee, is also expected. Additional responsibilities include support and improve engineering students’ abilities in introductory calculus, linear algebra, differential equations and statistics courses and to apply fundamental math concepts to practical engineering problems presented in the curriculum. Methods for achieving improved math abilities in engineering students may include developing and teaching courses and creating other resources for student success. The position requires a B.S. and M.S. degree in engineering, and an advanced knowledge of calculus, linear algebra, statistics, and differential equations. Positive demonstrated teaching experience including strong interpersonal skills, and classroom and individual instruction, is highly desirable. An ability to work well in a team is essential. This position has an anticipated start date of January 1, 2022. The start date later than January is negotiable.
